Let us go to the beach

Fervent and loyal blog readers may have been wondering what the recently posted videos were all about.

These clips are from video films that were made between 2003 and 2004 on the deserted beach of El Triple, Baja California, Mexico.
The same beach on which, as from 1979, sequences were made, VISTA-pictures and most recently, the PS-series.

These video films were never really presented to the public.
Major reason was and is that in the art-market hardly money can be made with video films.
A collector could buy one, the video film put on a DVD, but it is far from a unique object.
Once a person has a DVD, it is easy to copy.

With the prints of the PS-series, the VISTA-images and the sequences it is different.
Those prints are made on high quality paper and the edition is controlled.
For example, of the sequences only 25 copies were printed of each of the works.
Each print was signed and numbered.
This makes it a unique art object that is collectable and has therefore a market value.

A DVD is a metal disk with digital information and can be endlessly copied.

Another issue is that a beautiful print of a fine arts photograph can be put on the wall and enjoyed each time a person looks at it.
It can impress visitors.
And it goes up in value progressively.

A DVD with an art video film has to be seen with the help of equipment.
One needs a computer or a DVD player.
And the amount of time one is looking is decided by the DVD.
While one can decide how long to look at a print, an art video film has a certain length forcing the viewer to a time commitment.

Hence, an art video film on DVD has a very limited scope and no market value.

The logical conclusion in 2004 was not to continue to make art video films in El Triple, Baja California, Mexico and that resulted in starting making images with a still camera again: the PS-series.

Of course it was realized what a pity it is that no one sees those art video films made in El Triple.
And the plan was born to make them public.
For everybody to enjoy them.
Using a fabulous medium that exists now called “YouTube”.
This is a website where people can post their videos for everyone to see.

Very recently the art video films from El Triple, Mexico have been added to “YouTube”.
Now, everybody can see them and this for free.
